Television Shows Canceled Before Their Time
TV networks are not programming geniuses. They simply offer up shows they think the public is going to like, then they keep the shows on the air that have the highest ratings. Quality is not always a concern for networks. This is evident when you see a bad show stay on the air for years. This is also true when you see a good show canceled well before its time. Here is a look at some of those shows.
“Firefly”: This is a science fiction show created by Joss Whedon, who also created the popular series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” “Firefly” ran on the Fox network for one season, lasting 14 episodes. When the show was released on DVD, interest began to grow in the unusual series. The show gained so many fans that it prompted Whedon to make a movie several years later about the “Firefly” crew called “Serenity.”
“My So-Called Life”: The teen drama also lasted for just one season on ABC. It received major critical praise from the very beginning, but couldn’t build an audience. It lasted just 19 episodes.
“Freaks and Geeks”: This is another teen drama canceled too quickly. It lasted only 18 episodes, but it did launch the careers of stars like James Franco and Seth Rogen. If you like what you see, keep going: Joss Whedon: 20 greatest moments from ‘Buffy’, ‘Firefly’, more
